Back in March of 2023, I went to the SouthEast Adventure Vehicle Expo 2023 (S.A.V.E) at the Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park in Starke FL. There was an off road trail there and I went though it 5 times. I went through the trail 3 times on Saturday and 2 times on Sunday. Each time I went through the trail I recorded my run with my Sony HDR-AS100V action cam as my cockpit cam. Also I used my Sony A7ii and X3000 as my hood cam/ windshield cam during the weekend.
I edited each run and put the footage on Youtube. Below is a light description of each run. Along with the video. Each run is around 20 minutes long.
Run #1
On my first run I took it slow and just checked out the trail to see where everything was. I tried the trail in 4L but it was a little too slow for me. So I switched to the Mud and Ruts G.O.A.T. mode, put the Bronco in 4H, and locked the rear differential. I recorded it with Sony A7ii for the hood cam and the HDR-AS100V action cam as my cockpit cam.
Run #2
On the 2nd run I started in Mud and Ruts G.O.A.T. mode in 4H. But I did not lock the rear differential until I needed it. I tried using Trail Turn Assist whenever I could. I recorded it with Sony A7ii for the hood cam and the HDR-AS100V action cam as my cockpit cam.
Run #3
On the Saturday of the event this was my last run of the day. I kept the Bronco in Mud and Ruts G.O.A.T. mode in 4H and turning the Trail Turn Assist on and off when necessary. This run had some mud due to it raining off and on. Also I ran into traffic a few times. I sped up the footage in the video to maintain footage of me always in motion. On this run I completed the following obstacles:
- I went up the big dirt hill. It is angled so you can’t see the bottom until you go over the top and see the route swerves into a S turn coming down.
- The concrete steps. I turned on my rear differential lock to prevent the wheels slipping.
- The tight trees. For this obstacle I had to use my Trail Turn Assist to lock the inside wheel to be able to turn as tight as possible to get the Bronco between two trees.
Leaving the 3rd obstacle I went up a small hill and my front wheels came off the ground. Activating my traction control which turned off power to both my axles. So I rolled back down and locked my rear differential then proceeded to get over the hill. On the way out of the trail I saw a white toyota pickup truck back up to pull a white toyota suv out of the mud. If I didn’t turn to take on the 3rd obstacle I would have been behind the white suv and have to deal with the traffic it created.
Run #4
On the 4th run I stayed in 4H the whole time and had Trail Turn Assist on until I had to turn it off at the last obstacle and lock my rear differential. I started the run with a little pep in my step since there was no traffic this time on the trail. It took me 7 minutes to get to the hill obstacle then the other obstacles followed. When I got to the concrete steps obstacle I turned off the Trail Turn Assist and locked up my rear differential. Then turned it off and reengaged the Trail Turn Assist to go around the drop turn 30 seconds later. Followed by driving around to the 3rd obstacle, where I squeezed the Bronco between a gap between two trees. With the help of Trail Turn Assist. Then on the way away from the obstacle. The traction control activated and stopped the Bronco from moving and I had to lock my rear differential to get over a small hill. Then I just finished with the rear diff locked.
Run #5
The 5th and last run I attached my Sony A7ii to my windshield for a different perspective this time. I did the same thing as my other runs mostly. A slight difference is that I took the 1st obstacle in 4L so the Bronco could coast down the hill with no brake or throttle input. Also I locked up the rear diff before I took on the same 3rd obstacle as the 2nd run. Making it clear I don’t need a sway bar disconnect to get over uneven terrain.
