Unboxing
In the box the Led Hood Protector came in. The box contained the Led Hood Protector, Instructions, Zip ties, and Wire Holders.
Testing
To test the led hood protector I made a little simulation of how it works on my work bench. Using a bench power supply, turn signal switch, and turn signal relay.
The led hood protector has 4 wires connected to it.
A red wire, black wire, blue wire, and yellow wire.
The red wire has a 10 amp add a circuit and is the positive wire and the black wire is the negative wire. When the red wire is given 12v and the black wire is hooked to ground. The led hood protector shows a start up animation.
While the yellow and blue wires are used to act as turn signals. Both yellow and blue wires had wire splices on their ends to splice into the turn signal / daytime running wires of the headlights. But I removed the splices to do the testing. The yellow wire is the right turn signal and the blue wire is the left turn signal. When the yellow or blue wires are given 12v in short bursts due to the turn signal relay. While the black wire is connected to ground. The led hood protector shows an animation on the right or left side depending on which wire got power. As seen with the turn signal switch. Also when both the yellow and blue wires get 12v at the same time. As in then you hit the 4ways/ hazard lights. There is another animation starting in the middle going out to the end on the led hood protector.
Installation
Time to install the Led Hood Protector.
First off, Clean the hood so the Led hood protector can attach to the hood. Next grab the led hood protector and remove the red backing tape. Next place the hood protector on the hood where you want it to be. Next press hard along the edge of the led hood protector over and over again. To get the double sided tape to stick to the hood. Once you have the hood protector attached to the hood. Let it sit for 10 minutes. To let the led hood protector stick to the hood undisturbed. Next let’s move on to the electronics part. The main bullet points are: The red wire goes to a 12v power source. And the black goes to a ground point. The blue wire splices into the turn signal / daytime running wire for the left side/ drivers side headlight. The Yellow wire splices into the turn signal / daytime running wire for the right side/ passenger side headlight.
To get access to the headlight wiring I removed the front grille and removed the headlights to get to the headlight connectors. From there I spliced into the turn signal / daytime running wire for both headlights. I added a little extra wire to the yellow wire due to it being a little short. After completing the wiring. I connected the headlights back into their connectors and reattached the front grille.
